Wayne
Sutphin is an accomplished artist in many different art
mediums, but comic book art is his first love. He has a great knack
for story telling which is a great fit for an artist whose favorite
art genre is comic book graphics. Wayne has been drawing since he was
able to hold a drawing utensil. With a Major in Psychology and
a minor in studio art from the University of Virginia, Wayne had
thought of being an art therapist. Shortly before graduation he and
Steve Powell published Cy-Works. Cy-works sold well, but not
well enough to make that their only job. Wayne went on to do a few
comic strips in a few publications, painted pictures, and created
t-shirt designs. Along the road before arriving at Steel Mittens,
Wayne owned a semi pro football franchise, was a teacher (social
studies, art and language arts), and is the CEO and founder of A.R.E.
Entertainment in which he currently co-owns with Randy Franklin.

OUR VISION
MAIA Modeling and
Talent Agency is to efficiently and aggressively promote models and talent as an innovative, passionate, ethical and professional agency by adhering to the models and talents needs, whether through development, booking, branding, photos and placement.
Welcome & Thank You
Welcome and thank you for choosing to be a part of this Fresh Forward Fashion (FFF) event. Though the vision for this evening has a single purpose, there are many parts that make this event possible. I’d first like to thank all the young adults who have/are participating in this event that have allowed me to share in their lives as a mentor or life coach. While there are others they could have chosen to mentor them along life’s journey, I consider it special to have the opportunity to share in those endeavors that this industry affords. During this FFF event, you will have the privilege to share with these young adults as they model. Some are new faces, some are professional models, and some are from the runway of the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion week. All are coming together for a very meaningful cause.
Secondly, I’d like to thank the Change Purse organization for their vision to help and support women in this community and for choosing MAIA as a partner to help cast such a powerful vision. As you may know, the Change Purse vision is to help victims of sex trafficking transition back into mainstream. By equipping them with the necessary life-skills to make informed decisions, the organization helps empower each one to control their destiny.
Thirdly, I’d like to thank the MAIA Modeling team. Accordingly, thank you to our Director of Finance, Michael R. Cox, CPA; Administrative Director, Lise Jardine; Mia Collins, our Creative Director; Tara Wimbley, Editor; Douglas Martin; Master Hair and Make-up Stylist; and Carlton Holloway, our Director of Security. We’d also like to thank the support of Award Beauty School under the direction of its Director, Mary Ellen Sommerfeld; Blossom School of Etiquette under the direction of its Director, Laderta Robinson, Headshots Modeling.com in Frederick, MD. Lanie, we appreciate all of your support throughout the years and a very special thanks for your team of photographers and video team. Thanks to the production team, various committees; Wayne Sutphin for the music and production; Francine Donachie, Corporate Director of Sales Bowman Hospitality. Finally, we’d like to give a very special thanks to Hagerstown Mayor, Mayor David Gysberts, and other distinguished guests and friends and family of the community.
Enjoy the evening and thanks for your participation.
Kind regards,
A Marlene Cox

Fashion Styling 101
There’s more to being a fashion stylist than simply having an eye for style. To keep up in this fast paced industry, stylists must be devoted and have a strong dedication. It doesn’t stop with the wardrobe. You will find that you are creating the overlook and consulting on hair, make-up, and the entire image. You are creating their brand and how they want to be viewed visually, which can be powerful. In this world you only have fifteen minutes to make a great first impression. We stay on top of trends in the fashion community so that we can dress clients appropriately, communicate our vision on a fashion shoot, source product and scour every fashion magazine and lastly, having a passion for fashion.

Change Purse launched in November 2010 by three stay at home moms who shared a love of purses, coupled with a passion to fight sex trafficking. God gave them the idea for Change Purse and the rest is history. In their first year, Change Purse raised approximately $25,000. Since then, God has provided immeasurably more than could ever be asked or imagined.
Change Purse is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization committed to fighting sex trafficking through raising awareness and financially supporting faith based organizations that provide hope, healing, and restoration, through their direct work with victims and survivors of sex trafficking. Change Purse donates profits generated through collecting donated purses that are new or in like-new condition and selling them via the online store, awareness events, and home parties.

While earning a Bachelor’s degree in fashion from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Chiquita was afforded the opportunity to study abroad in 2005 at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. Upon her return from Australia, she went to work as an intern for the O Oscar division of Oscar de la Renta Company in 2006, where she received first-hand experience in various fashion trades ranging from merchandising to product development and sourcing. Later landing a job at National Wholesale Company, Inc. in 2007, she started out as an assistant merchant, and then moved her way up to associate merchant, merchant, senior merchant and now senior web merchant, all while earning a Master’s in Business
Administration from the University of Phoenix. As the marketing and advertising lead in The Fashion Cut, Chiquita hopes to allow a student with a dream of
becoming a designer or a post graduate who is looking to get their feet off the ground the
chance and exposure they deserve to attain a successful career in fashion.

Springs BOLD statement has a graphic look that has all the energy of street art! In other lines of fashion we are also seeing not a western look per se, but a look deeply grounded in American tradition
of tribal jewelry and folkloric patterns established by artists in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Creating patterns that combine art and craft, these spring styles are a new movement in the direction of earthiness, intricate puzzle pieces of patchwork, and embroidery. For spring we are also seeing gold’s and the brown earth tones take control, being splashed all over the red carpet and runways, along with large floral prints. We will always have styles that come in as fast as they go back out. For example “The Lip Print”, I do not expect to see a follow up of this fun but fast dying trend come fall. A color that has been named one of the hottest colors for spring is Raspberry and has flowed not only just into clothes but also into home goods and furnishings. You’ll see this fun color being used a lot as an accessory. Expect to see raspberry in shoes, hand bags, lip color, scarves, pillows, and even being worn as a solid color. If you’re not the type to be springs bold statement with a graphic look, simply accessorize that little black dress with a raspberry handbag and shoes or maybe fun graphic scarf. You also can really never go wrong with the earth tones and gold’s which are known as classic, but also some of springs very hot colors right now.

Miranda came on board the MAIA Team in the winter of 2009. Since, she has taken part in Frederick Fashion Week 2010-11, New Faces Fashion Show at Ava’s Lounge, Back to School Fashion Show at the Valley Mall, Designer Jeans, Handbags and a Swarovski Crystal Jewelry Fashion Show. She has also had the opportunity to be a talk show host for the African-American produced television show “It’s Your Turn”, which was broadcast through Antietam Cable Televison. “It’s Your Turn” featured local businesses, community and religious leaders, voices of the community, along with highlights and interviews from a then, semi-professional football team, Chambersburg Cardinals. During her time with MAIA, Miranda has also completed two Associate Degrees in Sociology and Paralegal Studies. For fitness and personal interest Miranda is currently taking a Middle Eastern dance class offered at Hagerstown Community College and this spring plans to enroll in Barbering School in Hagerstown. Miranda is also a songwriter, spoken-word artist, and author. She has recited her spoken-word within the Tri-State area, mostly at religious functions and community events, since 2003. Her first book, in the process of completion, will focus on uplifting, inspirational, and witty quotes which she has penned through experiences of life. Miranda has two daughters, Lovelei and LondonVictoria. Lovelei is a current student of Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, where she focuses on Visual Art/Design. LondonVictoria is an outgoing, outspoken elementary student at Rockland Woods Elementary where she is a member of the student council, plays the clarinet, and is already following in her footsteps of modeling. Both girls play soccer. Miranda lives with her daughters and currently resides in Hagerstown, Maryland. Miranda wishes to thank MAIA tremendously for their continued support, encouragement, and tireless efforts of breaking down the barriers of the modeling industry on behalf of others.

New Face Instructor at MAIA Modeling Agency
Teaching Models
As a college student, training models is extra work on top of college work but it is worth the duration. I enjoy instructing models how to walk on the runway with dignity and confidence. I teach all different ages of models, which is problematic, because there are various ways females walk at different ages. Young females and adult females perform particular kinds of walks, turns, and different hand positions on the runway. Young children just walk and have opposed hand positions without any turns on the runway. The models were instructed to pick three outfits to advertise on the runway to practice for their first fashion show. The Modeling Boot-camp is very helpful for people of all ages who want to be successful models. These models have improved tremendously as this class went on. I am well-pleased for the models who experienced my first time teaching. Before I started this job, I could not imagine myself teaching students. I decided to take this opportunity to help out MAIA Modeling and Talent Agency. I appreciate this opportunity to come out of my shell and be a role model for my students. I give a special thanks to Mrs. Marlene Cox for granting me this incredible job.

The Fashion Cut LLC
Who are we and How does it Work?
The Fashion Cut is an open competition consisting of an industry panel of judges that promotes and exposes emerging fashion designers and design students to the fashion industry through networking with retailers and the broader fashion market. This is done through open calls, interviews, and selecting the 10 finalists to compete for the opportunity to work with an established fashion house. Two of the founding partners are the featured MC’s for tonight’s event. See MAIA Modeling and Talent Agency for more information.
As the Recruiting Director for The MAIA Modeling and Talent Agency I have the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of many young girls and boys. Many of whom never thought they could be a model or had what it takes to become one.
What does it take to become a model? Really the only thing is the drive, determination and to just simply go for your dream. If this has been your dream then go for it! I have approached many people who critique their own selves with statements such as “my nose is too wide or I am too short.” Even telling me they wish they could be a model! My reply is yes you can! If modeling is what you really want to do. I personally love the ones who are smiling as I walk away and see them looking at my card I handed them.
For me…. it is just as exciting to walk up to someone and ask them if they ever thought of being a model. I have met many very nice people while I am recruiting for models and am just as excited when they show up to the MAIA Modeling and Talent Agency.
My Motto... Always do and be the best you can be for your future and respect all lives.

Dear Washington County,
A purse: an accessory, keeper of your cell phone, keeper of your keys and essentially the needs of your daily life. Did you know that this item that we take for granted, that we stuff our things into, that we usually never give a second thought, has the capability to change the world?
Yes, that old battered purse that is stored in the deep abyss of your closet or in the jungle under your bed is an instrument towards a better world. Are you ready to be a part of it? MAIA Modeling and Talent Agency has recently discovered the wonderful charitable organization called Change Purse – no they do not just collect change purses! Change Purse’s mission is right in the title; using purses, your purses, for change! Change Purse collects new or gently used purses to sell online. The profit that Change Purse makes from these sales is used towards helping survivors of sex trafficking to live better lives.
Just think how simple it is to help someone in need, someone who has endured horrors, with simply a purse or purses that we have not used in ages and have not seen the light of day in years. It filled our hearts when we first purchased that purse or were given that purse and now we will fill our hearts again, along with those victimized, by donating it.
Now is the time to open your hearts and clear out your closets! We ask that your organization joins us in this fight against sex trafficking by easily collecting purses from your friends, family, and co-workers. These purses can be manageably collected in a central location until March 7, 2014. On this date MAIA will be hosting a “Women Empowering Women” Fashion Show in which we will build a wall with the purses donated to reflect our unified support for this wonderful cause.
Thank you for your consideration and your support!
Sincerely,
MAIA Modeling and Talent Agency
of Washington County

Apple Avenue Publishing was founded on July 21, 2011 by owner and book author Wayne S. Sutphin, Jr. Apple Avenue Publishing publishes positive children’s books and graphic novels. Our books promote positive character building, cultural diversity, and positive attitudes among children and general readers. Books published by this company focus on building self-esteem and self-confidence, promoting the pillars of character, and on stimulating
cultural awareness for children of all ages (including adults). Diversity includes learning to respect one’s self and one’s culture while showing respect for other cultures. Positive attitudes promote
positive outlooks on life. These character traits and awareness
require development early in childhood in order for them to be beneficial to children as they emerge into teenagers. Apple Avenue
Publishing promotes books that are entertaining to children and that pertain to situations that they may encounter in school and in society. Our children’s books are educational and fun to read. They cover life skills and academic fundamentals simultaneously.
We feel that education should not only have an academic component but include an array of daily living and social skills as well.
Children’s minds are little sponges waiting to receive information
through reading. Gaining information needed to handle everyday situations and events is an important tool for children. Apple Avenue Publishing places great emphasis on learning and education by creating opportunities to read to learn.
Currently, Wayne Sutphin, Jr. is Apple Avenue Publishing’s exclusive book writer, but the company is in the process of expanding.
Apple Avenue Publishing welcomes other authors to join the quest to encourage, inform, educate and support our country’s greatest asset, our children. This company was formed initially to focus on book authors wanting to join a publishing company which represents integrity and devotion to the craft. In order to maintain quality, this will require us to focus, promote, and support one author at a time.

To Find Your Design Style, Try Looking In Your Closet
By Vickie Hrabal
Owner of Oak Hill Interior Design LLC
Hagerstown, MD
Sometimes when I meet with clients for an Interior Design Project, they don’t know what their Design Style is. There are several ways you can discover your design style for your home. Classes at Community colleges can be helpful. I teach a class for HCC called “What is Your Design Style” which my students learn about different Interior Design styles and discover their preference. Another way is to go to websites such as www.houzz.com and start putting images you like into folders for each room of your home. A trend will start to develop and you will see whether you are formal or casual; modern or traditional and you will start seeing reoccurring color schemes, too. Another way that sometimes works, is to look into your closet.
We buy clothing much more frequently than we buy furniture or decorative items for our homes, so we are comfortable choosing a jacket, pants or accessories to wear. We know what we like and can pick it out quickly. Sometimes we can be persuaded to try something new and are surprised that we like it. But furniture, draperies and art work can be very expensive and for big purchases you might want guidance from a professional. So how do you figure out what you will like once it is in your home????
Try looking in your closet. Some of us dress very classically and are more comfortable with traditional furnishings. If you are a trendy dresser, or wear mostly solid fabrics with few frills, a modern décor could be your thing. Many people wear a lot of black or white. That doesn’t mean you should decorate with only black and white. Our major pieces are usually a neutral color. Major pieces include jackets, slacks, and skirts; and in the home sofas, window treatments and walls can be neutral. Gray is especially popular now in both clothing and interior design. For punches of color, look at your accessories. Do you pair a blue scarf or necklace with your black pants and white top? Maybe blue is a good color for your interior. Also look at your handbags. We have such a broad range of colors available. The ones we choose could be the inspiration for pillows and accessories in your family room or bedroom.

Essential Oils for Women
Essential oils are aromatic compounds extracted from plants. They’re the life force of a plant; similar to the importance of blood in humans. These oils are beneficial for physical, emotional, mental and even spiritual issues. Essential oils are 50 to 70 times more powerful than herbs; so often for just pennies per drop they can be a wonderful complement to a woman’s arsenal for her own health and wellness as well as her family’s. Unlike our pharmaceuticals; these individual oils are made up of hundreds of compounds with molecules so small they can permeate through a cell’s membrane and counteract viruses as well as bacteria. This makes the essential oils a good complementary choice for health and wellness with very low risk of side effects, an ability to actually get to the core of the concern versus treating or masking the symptoms. Did you know that a drop of peppermint can equal 28 cups of peppermint tea?
Essential Oils are also wonderful for the skin. Since skin is the largest organ in the body, it can act like a sponge carrying both good and harmful chemical agents into the body. But essential oils, with their wonderful nutritive and healing properties, are readily absorbed into the skin and then work their way into the bloodstream. Putting the oil on the feet, where the pores are largest and the skin is less sensitive, is another wonderful way to use essential oils topically. Here is a list of some of the essential oils helpful for skin itself. Frankincense, geranium, lavender and myrrh are excellent for mature skin. Puffiness is helped by clary sage, frankincense, roman chamomile, rosemary and ylang ylang. Oily skin is neutralized with clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, lavender and roman chamomile. The EOs- helichrysum, lavender, frankincense and myrrh can even out discoloration. Frankincense can help rid skin tags. Melaleuca is wonderful for acne, and helichrysum can ease scarring. This article is to provide educational information only. It is not intended to diagnose, cure or treat any medical condition. Please feel free to consult your healthcare practitioner. This is a very small look into a few ways that essential oils can transform your life.
I love to teach educational classes about essential oils. Please feel free to contact me personally to be a blessing to you in anyway I can.

The Story...
Twenty years ago, James Angelton lost his daughter in a senseless, violent break-in. Young Jenny has walked the halls of the manor house in terror, reliving that horrible night over and over again ever since...her soul never finding peace. Turning his anguish and vast resources toward an unlikely solution, James Angelton has funded a rescue mission onto the razor’s edge between life and death to save her. Using a new technology his company has developed called Project Doorway, an unconventional group of heroes plan to delve into the paranormal veil where sometimes what you don’t see can hurt you.
Razorwalkers is the first project from Infinity9Films, a Hagerstown based independent film company owned by Darrin and Kat Archer. Part science-fiction thriller, part ghost story, Darrin Archer has written a script that truly captures the imagination and will surely thrill fans of many different genres. Currently in production, Razorwalkers features a cast and crew from the surrounding area, and will include a soundtrack composed entirely of music from local bands. In addition to writing the script, Darrin is also the director and will star in the film, which is being shot on location throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
In order to find the many extras needed for a production of this scale, the Archers turned to the MAIA Modeling and Talent Agency in Hagerstown. MAIA agreed to support the film by making their talent available, including a young model named Brooke Silvius, who has been cast as Jenny, one of the central characters in the story. In fact, the relationship with MAIA has proven to be so fruitful that a number of other speaking parts have been filled by MAIA’s gifted clients. Darrin will no doubt turn to MAIA again in the future, to assist with the many Infinity9Film projects that are already planned.
The MAIA Modeling and Talent Agency is just one of several local businesses supporting the film. Others include Dream IT Studios, Round Rock Studios, The Kestler Financial Group, Inked Up Studios, Frugals Thrift and Consign, The Baladerry Inn, On Town Limousines, The N.E.W. A-ville Inn, Innovisionary Design and Beadiful Baby. Private donations in support of the film can be made through the Infinity 9 Films web site (www.Infinity9Films.com), which also features cast bios and photographs, and where you can find more information about the businesses listed above.
Razorwalkers is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2014 and will premiere at the Leitersburg Cinemas in Hagerstown.
